Dear Representative Kirk,
Last week President Obama called on Congress to take action to fix our broken immigration system. Calling immigration reform a "fundamental challenge" and a "moral imperative," he pointed out that this issue requires bipartisan support. He also criticized the new Arizona immigration law as "ill-conceived" - and the Justice Department has followed through by challenging that law.
At a time when we urgently need federal action to reform our immigration laws, I need to know where you stand - especially since you hope to represent our state in the US Senate. Unfortunately, you have yet to meet with immigrant leaders or to take a stand regarding immigration reform.
I urge you to support comprehensive reform that, as President Obama outlined, will secure our borders, hold employers accountable, and enable undocumented immigrants to "get right with the law." Our families and our country cannot afford to put off this issue any longer. I urge you to support immigration reform that will benefit our entire state and our entire nation.
